Father’s Day 2021 falls on Sunday 20th June. At the time of writing, many of our excellent restaurants, pubs, attractions and activity providers have reopened following a long period of restrictions, so this Father’s Day, why not support a local business and experience something new with your dad? The Causeway Coast and Glens is lucky to be home to some of the best seascapes in the world. You can explore our Atlantic coastline in many ways, but one of the most unique ways to experience it is from a boat. There are several boat tour operators in the area, from yacht cruises to sea safari excursions.

Surrounded by open waters and home to plenty of still lakes and calming rivers, the Causeway Coast has an abundance of opportunities to soft adventure on the water. watersport. One such activity that’s rising in popularity is Stand-up Paddleboarding (SUP). Using a buoyant float and a paddle to propel yourself through the water, it’s one of the more relaxing water-based activities you can enjoy while taking in the sights and scenes of our area.

Jump in to action

If you’ve been following us for a while you’re probably familiar with coasteering by now. This thrilling water-based activity involves plunging and diving in to our waters with an experienced guide in a safe and controlled environment. Perfect for dads that love an adrenaline rush!

Book a sea dip and sauna session

New to the landscape of Benone Beach is a portable sea sauna offering those wishing to take a dip in our chilly Atlantic waters a place to heat themselves in an authentic Finnish ‘hotbox’ afterwards. Sea swimming and heat therapy have been scientifically proven to have numerous health and wellbeing benefits!

Channel your inner Bear Grylls

How do you start a fire with only natural materials? Could you start one in the wild and have the skills to use it to your advantage? The team at Causeway Adventures are now offering Bushcraft sessions, in which you’ll be given practical hands-on experience in selecting what materials to use, fire lighting, how to make an authentic Irish staple of soda bread and bacon and finish it off with being taught how to safely put the fire out!

Hit the green!

For dads who love golf, there’s always the safe option of treating him to a day on his favourite course. Having been host to The 148th Open in Portrush back in 2019, we know a thing or two about the sport, and our course operators are experts in keeping their greens well maintained, as well as offering world class facilities for those wishing to practice their swing. And there’s always the option of pitch and putt if 18 holes is too much of a challenge.

Have a ‘reely’ great angling experience

While some dads love to relax on a golf course, others find the water is the place that soothes their soul the most. There are numerous fishing-based experiences to be enjoyed in the Causeway Coast and Glens: try a fishing boat trip guided by an expert skipper or hit one of our many designated fishing spots in the area (make sure you have a license!)

The catch of the day is: hands on foodie tours

If early starts aren't your dad’s cup of tea you can jump straight to chowing down on locally sourced fish, prawns, and other incredible seafood dishes, the options are plentiful. Being so close to the coast, and populated by many expert anglers, you’ll find plenty of sit-in and takeaway restaurants offering sustainably sourced produce, with their own unique spin on the traditional staple of fish and chips.

Not a seafood fan? No problem!

Of course there’s more than just seafood on the menu here in the Causeway Coast and Glens. You’ll find our towns and villages are home to a bounty of award-winning restaurants, with each offering something unique to foodies. Whether your dad prefers fine dining in a trendy restaurant or some good old pub grub in a rural bar, you won’t be stuck for choice!

You’ll want to stretch your legs after all of that eating!

After sampling the finest cuisine the Causeway Coast has to offer, you might still have room for a little bit of adventure. We’re home to many beauty spots and attractions to explore, and our attractions are surrounded by stunning landscapes, waymarked trails, beaches and forests. There’s plenty of exploring to be done between mealtimes!
