About

Portstewart Methodist Church is the oldest church in the town, it was built in memory of Dr Adam Clarke in the Gothic revivalist style.

The foundation stone was laid on 31 August 1859 and the Church opened om 4 July 1861.  Originally the building had ornate pinnacles and buttresses but a severe storm in 1884 caused some of these to blow down damaging the roof.  The damage was repaired but in 1912 the remaining roof ornaments were removed which saw the Church take on its present shape.  An extension to the south side of the building in 2011 provided updated kitchen and toilet facilities. Come and explore the history and hertiage of the Portstewart Methodist Church through a self guided tour and have a chat with the church members.
