Due to current Covid restrictions, many of our tourism and hospitality businesses are closed and there are travel limits in place. However, when the time is right we look forward to welcoming you to the Causeway Coast and Glens for a first or return visit. Here is what you can look forward to.
You will find us on the north coast of Northern Ireland, flanked by the wild Atlantic Ocean and lush, green fields, glens and valleys. The rugged, unspoilt landscape presents adventures and activities off the beaten track. Or grab some bragging rights and experience some iconic attractions along the Causeway Coastal Route. Whatever you choose to do you will be embraced in a warm welcome from our people.
Voted the Number 1 Region to visit by Lonely Planet in 2018 you will find lots of things to see and do in the Causeway Coast and Glens. Here are some ideas to get you started.
UNESCO World Heritage Site Giant’s Causeway
No trip to Northern Ireland is complete without a visit to the Giant’s Causeway. It’s up to you to decide whether the unique hexagonal stones were formed by volcanic action. Or maybe the myth and legend of the Irish Giant Finn McCool is true! Either way the place is epic.
Old Bushmills Distillery
Whiskey doesn’t get any older than Old Bushmills. Licensed to distil in 1608, the Causeway Coast and Glens is the perfect place for you to sample the liquid gold perfected by the people of Bushmills for generations.
The history of the Causeway Coast and Glens will enthral you with stories of clans, feuds romances and even some ghosts! Capture the perfect selfie at Dunluce Castle, built on a cliff edge just outside Portrush. The heart stopping beauty of Mussenden Temple at Downhill Demesne also guarantees you a wow moment. And if you’re lucky, you’ll see the Coleraine to Derry~Londonderry train emerge from the tunnel beneath.
The Glens of Antrim
You will find more myths and legends when you explore the nine Glens of Antrim. The winding coastal road will guide you to the capital of the Glens at Cushendall. Glenariff is known as Queen of the Glens. For spectacular walks check out Glenariff Forest Park. From here, venture west to the picturesque fishing village of Cushendun. Look out for the caves behind the village as seen in Game of Thrones®.
Rathlin Island
For raw beauty, look no further than Rathlin Island. Northern Ireland’s only inhabited island offers you a different pace of life. Enjoy an almost spiritual reawakening as you become one with nature. The wildlife, walking trails and seabird colony make this a magical experience. Catch a ferry to the island from the seaside town of Ballycastle.
Game of Thrones®
For Thronies, the Causeway Coast and Glens is a must visit. Fans will recognise the distinctive Dark Hedges as the Kingsroad highway in Westeros. The stunning location of Fair Head was used for many scenes, including where Jon Snow, Daenerys and Drogon share a moment together. Head further west to idyllic isolation at Binevenagh Mountain to explore the Dothraki Grasslands. Many other locations offer views that are both evocative and iconic.
Golf
Giants come in many forms. The golfing giants came to visit us at Royal Portrush for The Open in 2019. But you can enjoy links golf at championship courses too in Portrush, Portstewart and Castlerock. Parkland and other links courses are open to visitors throughout the Causeway Coast and Glens.
Walking in the Causeway Coast and Glens will lift your spirits. Experience coastal trails, countryside paths and mountainous hikes. Follow a guided route such as the Causeway Coast Way or be adventurous and make your own way.
Seaside Fun
Seaside fun is something we know a lot about. Bring out your inner child and build sandcastles on the golden beaches of Portrush, Portsewart and Ballycastle. Stroll along the water’s edge and listen to the sounds of the Atlantic waves. Grab your surfboard or jump in a kayak and feel exhilarated as you explore the coastline. Or just opt for one of our famous ice creams on the prom and watch the world go by.
Taste Causeway
Get your taste buds tingling with local food and drink served up in our bars and restaurants. Treat yourself to the tastes of the Causeway Coast and Glens on food tours on land and sea. Meet the makers through an Economusee Artisans at Work experience. Pick up some ideas and some local produce to bring home with you.
