Lir Sessions is a brand-new folk and trad music festival arriving in Ballycastle this May, bringing together headline artists, intimate gigs, session trails and special events. It’s a celebration of traditional sound and contemporary folk culture — rooted in place and shaped by the artists who continue to define it.
21 May – 25 May 2026
Headline Events
A series of standout performances sit at the heart of the programme:
Frances Black
An intimate homecoming performance from one of Ireland’s most celebrated voices.
Women of the North
A powerful celebration of the women shaping traditional and folk music across the North, featuring Ríoghnach Connolly, Deirdre Havlin, Katie Sands and hosted by Aoife Scott.
The Big Céilí
A high-energy night of céilí dancing with the Colla Céilí Band and expert caller Ronan Eastwood — no experience needed.
More Than a Festival
Beyond the headline shows, Lir Sessions unfolds across Ballycastle with a mix of free exclusive events, trad by the sea, interactive workshops, and hands-on experiences - from learning a few words of Irish to trying traditional instruments. It’s a festival designed to be explored, with something happening around every corner.
Session Trails
Keep an eye out across the festival for our Session Trail - informal gatherings of incredible musicians in pubs and venues across the town. Taking place each evening, these sessions offer a chance to experience traditional music in its most natural and spontaneous setting - with no two Sessions the same!
Plan Your Weekend
From headline gigs to late-night sessions, Lir Sessions invites you to explore, discover and be part of the Festival.
