About

Tucked away within three acres of mature gardens and woodland, Peatlands offers a secluded and peaceful 4-star getaway in the heart of the spectacular Causeway Coast. Named for the neighbouring National Nature Reserve, Peatlands reflects its setting through a strong connection to nature, sustainability, and artisan craft.

Blending exceptional craftsmanship with distinctive character, our two luxury shepherd’s huts provide privacy, calm, and views across a rich natural landscape alive with wildlife. Every element has been carefully considered to create a stay that feels restorative, indulgent, and effortlessly comfortable — equally suited to quiet escapes, creative breaks, or time set aside for focused work or writing.

Peatlands is also home to an award-winning artisan bakery, with freshly baked sourdough bread and handcrafted treats available for guests to enjoy during their stay, including as part of our generous breakfast offering. Exclusive sourdough bread-making courses, offered only to Peatlands guests, can also be added when booking.

Each shepherd’s hut sits within its own generous, private space, accessed by a boardwalk and opening onto a generous deck. Inside, guests will find:

A king-size bed with a supremely comfortable Mlily mattress and luxurious Bedfolk cotton linens

A luxury shower room with premium toiletries, fluffy towels, and cosy robes

A fully equipped kitchen with fridge, oven, microwave, double hob, kettle, coffee maker, toaster, and high-quality dishware

High-speed Wi-Fi and a smart projector/TV, ideal for relaxed evenings or longer stays

A fold-out dining table and chairs, well suited to meals, writing, or laptop work (a sit-stand laptop desk is also available on request)

Multiple heating options, including a wood-burning stove, electric heater, and heated towel rail

Step outside onto your private deck, complete with a fire pit and dining area — perfect for stargazing, quiet reflection, or unwinding beneath the night sky.

Guests also have access to The Nook, a separate shared space offering facilities for drying clothes, storing larger bags or cases, freezer space, ice buckets, beach towels, and secure storage for sports equipment such as bicycles. Logs and charcoal for fire-pit cooking are provided, alongside maps and local guides to support both exploration and longer stays.

Peatlands is ideally located just 45 minutes from Belfast International Airport, with the highlights of the Causeway Coast a short drive away: Portrush, Dunluce Castle, and Bushmills are around 10 minutes away, while the Giant’s Causeway, Dark Hedges, and Portstewart can be reached in 15 minutes. The Glens of Antrim, Ballycastle, and ferry crossings to Rathlin Island are also close by.

Directly across the road lies Garry Bog National Nature Reserve, one of Northern Ireland’s largest areas of undamaged lowland raised bog. Designated as a Ramsar Site, Special Area of Conservation, and Area of Special Scientific Interest, it is a haven for biodiversity. A public path allows guests to explore its vibrant grasses, mosses, heathers, and gorse.

Peatlands is open all year round, offering a calm and comfortable retreat in every season, with preferential rates available for solo stays and longer visits. We would be delighted to welcome you.
