It’s going to be another great month in the Causeway Coast and Glens! After the excitement of The 148th Open at Royal Portrush in July, towns and villages across the borough are preparing to host more epic events during the month of August. Make the last month of the summer holidays count and join us in attending these fantastic days out:

Heart of The Glens Festival | 3rd-11th August

Featuring over 100 events throughout the 9 day period, The Heart of the Glens Festival takes place in Cushendall in the beautiful Glens of Antrim. The exciting programme of events includes the famous Lurig Challenge, a fantastic Food Fest night, the adult Treasure Hunt, the ever popular fancy dress night, a Vintage Family Fun Day and the ‘Dalriada Sounds’ concert, which showcases the talent of both locals and guests from other areas with dancing, music, singing and poetry.

Northwest Pipeband Championships | 2nd-3rd August

The sound of pipes and drums will ring out across Portrush as the town hosts the annual competition, taking place the week after the World Championships in Scotland marking the conclusion of the piping season. Organised by the Royal Scottish Pipe Band Association (RSPA), the event attracts up to 50 pipe bands and also includes International Highland dancing competition. To finish there will be a street carnival parade bringing music, colour and culture to the beautiful seaside resort of Portrush.

Live at The Beach | 10th August

Lush! have announced plans for an all-new Beach Festival in their spiritual home of Portrush.  Following the overwhelming success of multiple sell-out Lush! Classical shows at the SSE Arena Belfast and Ebrington Square, Derry/Londonderry for the Clipper Yacht Race celebrations,  Lush! are now taking things to the next level with their Biggest classical show to date, taking the ‘Lush Classical’ concept outdoors with Portrush’s stunning coastline as its backdrop.

Stendhal Festival | 15th-17th August

Stendhal Festival is a multi-award winning music and Arts Festival which takes place each year in the stunning, scenic surroundings of Ballymully Cottage Farm, Limavady. The festival celebrates all things creative and provides an eclectic weekend of music, poetry, comedy, dance, theatre, contemporary and traditional arts, sculpture, street performance, craft, workshops and a dedicated family programme

Established in 2011, Stendhal has grown from strength to strength each year since its inception and has witnessed a celebrated mix of international and local talent, as well as a plethora of undiscovered gems. Across 8 stages, some of the acts featured on this year’s exciting line-up include Basement Jaxx, Hothouse Flowers and Damien Dempsey

Causeway Coast Truck Fest | 17th-18th August

The Causeway Coast Truck Festival is back and bigger than ever for its 5th Anniversary. This year the show will see over 600 of the finest show and working trucks from all over Ireland gather in scenic Portstewart, with trucks also visiting from Scotland, Wales and England, each of them competing for 25 top prizes, including the main prize of Truck of the Show.

Admission to the event is entirely free with something for all the family including face painting, bumper cars and bouncy castles at the Kids’ Zone, a Food and Trade Village which will showcase the offerings of the Causeway Coast, and live entertainment on the Anchor Complex live stage!

The Ould Lammas Fair | 24th-27th August

Every year thousands flock to Ballycastle for Ireland’s oldest Fair. Traditionally held on the last bank holiday weekend of the summer, the seaside town bustles with street trading, bargaining, traditional music, dancing, horse trading, amusements, artisan markets and much more!

The Fair launches with a spectacular fireworks display at the seafront which is complimented by a live music concert and twilight market offering all the very best of local produce and crafts. Since the 17th Century, horse traders have arrived to the town centre to buy and sell horses and this year will be no exception as they return to continue the Fair’s unbroken history. Don’t forget to pick up some Yellow Man – a local sweet speciality!

Causeway Mini Weekend | 24th-25th August

The Causeway Coast Mini Club caters for the Mini enthusiasts of the North Coast of Northern Ireland and further afield.

The 25th annual mini weekend will take place at West Bay Car Park, Portrush celebrating 60 years of mini! This amazing site will give a fantastic view of the Atlantic and great starting point for the Cavalcade along the prom. Trade stands, autojumble and family entertainment will add to the fun of the day.

Air Waves Portrush | 31st August – 1st September

Ireland’s biggest airshow returns for 2019! Two free days of incredible air displays and ground entertainment will take place in the beautiful seaside setting of Portrush, County Antrim.

Headlining this year are the Global Stars but spectators can also expect to see the Catalina, P-47 Thunderbolt, OV-10 Bronco, Augtogyro, Tuscano, RAF Tutor, Dakota, and Wing-walkers, to name but a few participants in this year’s annual aviation extravaganza. On the ground, visitors can look forward to an extensive range of exhibits headlined by the STEM Village where the worlds of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics come alive in an interactive and engaging way. There’ll also be a showcase of the Destination’s artisan sector at the local food and craft market along with themed areas including a fascinating look back in time with the Ulster Aviation Society.
