Father’s Day 2020 will certainly be one to remember! Last year, we put together a list of 10 places in the Causeway Coast and Glens where you could dine out with your dad for his special day, but due to things being a little bit different lately, we’ve had to get a bit more creative this year!

If you live in the area, here’s some ideas of how to spend this year’s Father’s Day while maintaining social distancing, or buy it forward!

Order in

Last year we encouraged you to dine out, this year we’re encouraging you to dine in! At the beginning of lockdown we identified cafés and restaurants across our local areas that adapted their businesses to provide delivery and take out services. As restaurants and cafés won’t be opening until 3rd July 2020, many of these establishments will still be offering delivery services over Father’s Day. You can view the full list here [hyperlink] - but be sure to check with each business ahead of ordering for delivery and take-out details!

The best gifts sometimes come in a bottle

Bushmills Whiskey have recently launched a brand new webshop where you can shop their full range of world-famous malts and more. Now you can enjoy a taste of our charming little village of Bushmills from home, with the added convenience of having it delivered straight to your door! As they've summed it up perfectly: “without the village there would be no whiskey, and without the whiskey there would be no village”.

Make that a beer bottle!

If your dad prefers his brews to his Bushmills, local craft beer company, Lacada Brewery, are also offering home deliveries of their thirst-quenching IPAs and stouts. For details on how to order please visit the website

Get out on the water

Adventurous dads will love the Causeway Coast’s water-based activities like coasteering, surfing lessons and stand-up paddle boarding sessions. There’s plenty of qualified instructors and guides to choose from in the area, and each guarantees an adrenaline rush like no other.  Book a session now.

Treat him to a fishing trip

For a slower paced adventure, go fishing! You can opt for a lazy day by our lakes or rivers, or find your sea legs on a fishing trip with Causeway Lass or Boy Matthew in Portstewart or if you just want to enjoy the views and the marine life, how about an exhilarating sea safari with Abhainn Boat Cruises or Aquaholics?

Challenge him to a round of golf

If your dad fancies himself as the next Graeme McDowell, then treat him to a round of golf at one of the many stunning courses across the area. If you can’t manage to get a slot this weekend, you can usually book in advance or purchase memberships or vouchers as the ideal gifts for golf lovers!  Pitch and putt or crazy golf is always an option too!

Fancy a picnic?

With plenty of beauty spots in the area, a picnic is the perfect way to take in some stunning surroundings and get some fresh air. Crusoe’s in Castlerock offer award-winning bespoke cheese boxes which are now available to order online, taking the hassle out of putting together your own picnic box! What’s even better? He’s not going to picnic on his own, so it means you’ll get a share too! Just keep an eye on the weather forecast.

Vouchers are always a good idea!

Everyone has their favourites, but as we’re restricted on where we can visit this weekend, it’s a good time to gift your dad with a voucher for his favourite places to use at a later date. Whether he has a go-to B&B, that one restaurant he has to visit on his birthday every year, or even just his preferred café, lots of businesses in the Causeway Coast and Glens have vouchers available to purchase for their establishments.

Hit the road

Spend some quality time together by taking in the stunning scenery of the Causeway Coastal Route. Pack your aforementioned picnic and rediscover the joy of exploring your favourite attractions in the Causeway Coast and Glens. As most of our iconic attractions are outdoors, it’s easy to maintain social distancing guidelines and a great way to get some exercise too!
