How do I get to Rathlin Island?
You can travel to Ballycastle Harbour by bus or car, then take the Rathlin–Ballycastle Ferry or arrange a private boat charter to reach the island.
Where do I catch the ferry to Rathlin Island?
The ferry departs from Ballycastle Harbour, located on Bayview Road.
Do I need to book the ferry in advance?
Yes, advanced online booking is essential through www.rathlin‑ferry.com.
Can I take my car to Rathlin Island?
Cars are not permitted for day trips. Private vehicles are only allowed for stays of six nights or more—or for Blue Badge holders—with advance booking required.
How long does the ferry journey take?
The fast ferry takes approximately 30 minutes, while the larger ferry takes around 40 minutes.
Can I bring luggage and bicycles on the ferry?
Luggage and bicycles are allowed on the Spirit of Rathlin ferry. The smaller Kintra ferry, however, does not accommodate luggage, bicycles, or pushchairs.
Is there parking available at the Ballycastle ferry terminal?
Yes, pay-and-display parking is available at Ballycastle Harbour daily from 8:30 am to 6:30 pm.
Where do I park my car if I’m staying overnight on Rathlin?

Are there different ferry types?
Yes. The Kintra carries up to 82 passengers, while the Spirit of Rathlin carries up to 141 passengers (capacity may vary depending on weather).

Yes, the Spirit of Rathlin is wheelchair-accessible, with a ramp and downstairs seating area.
Are pets allowed on the ferry?
Yes, dogs are welcome but must be kept on a lead at all times.

Are bicycles allowed, and can I hire one on the island?

No, there are currently no taxi services available on Rathlin.
