About
Saint Patrick’s Well or "Tubber Patrick" at Portstewart Strand sits at the head of the iconic golden sands of Portstewart Strand, a beautiful beach managed by the National Trust renowned for its dunes, wide shoreline and scenic walks. The well - also known in Irish as Tobar Phádraig - was used as a freshwater source long before Christian times and later became associated with Saint Patrick, who is said to have blessed the spring. Over the centuries it gained a reputation for healing water and was an important stop for locals and visitors alike.
Today, Saint Patrick’s Well remains a quiet point of interest for those exploring the Causeway Coast Way and the cliff paths around Portstewart. The well’s location is easily reached from the main strand and coastal paths that link the beach with the town and golf club, offering a glimpse into the area’s natural and cultural heritage while enjoying panoramic views across the beach and dunes.
Visitor tip: The well is best reached on foot along the dune-fringed paths from the Portstewart Strand car park or via the cliff walk heading west from Portstewart town centre.
