To celebrate European Heritage Open Days 2026, Drum Gatelodge near Bushmills will be open on Sunday 13th September from 10am to 4pm. This is a free event offering a rare chance to peek inside a romantic 19th-century gatelodge. Nestled in a quiet rural setting, the lodge features a circular tower, gothic windows, and a sense of storybook charm - a gem of Irish architectural heritage.
Managed by the Irish Landmark Trust, an educational charity dedicated to saving, sharing and sustaining Ireland’s built heritage, the site reflects how distinctive historic buildings—from lighthouses to schoolhouses and castles—can be carefully conserved and brought back into meaningful use.
