About

Rathlin Sound Festival is a family-friendly celebration of the Rathlin Sound – the stretch of water linking Rathlin Island and Ballycastle. The festival showcases the rich maritime, cultural and natural heritage of the North Coast through a lively programme of activities on land and sea.

Across ten days, visitors can enjoy a diverse mix of live music, hands-on “have-a-go” activities, craft sessions and informative talks suitable for all ages.

Highlights include traditional boatbuilding demonstrations, watersports such as paddleboarding and kayaking, sand sculpting for children and a range of interactive experiences designed to connect people with the coast and marine environment.

The festival opens with the much-loved Blessing of the Boats, a poignant and symbolic event reflecting the area’s strong seafaring traditions. With activities taking place in both Ballycastle and on Rathlin Island, Rathlin Sound Festival offers a welcoming and immersive way to experience the unique character of this coastal region.

Accessibility varies by activity and location. Visitors are advised to check event details in advance.
