About
Coleraine has a long and colourful history dating back nearly 10,000 years to when Mesolithic man made his home on the banks of the Bann at Mountsandel. Saint Patrick is said to have given the town its name ‘Cuil Rathain’ (the ferny corner) when a local chieftain gave him a plot of land to build a church around 450 AD. Down the years
Coleraine Heritage Trail takes you on a leisurely stroll exploring the history of the town using some of its most historic buildings. The trail includes a map and a suggested route beginning at Coleraine Town Hall.
Trail leaflets are available from Coleraine Town Hall and Coleraine History Hub in the Diamond Centre, where an accompanying 3D map and audio narrative can be accessed.
