About
Causeway Coast & Glens (CCG) Branch of the North of Ireland Family History Society meets once a month (September - June) for talks designed to help folk with their family history, particularly those with ancestors in the CCG area. Some are on specific areas of research such as finding and using land records, censuses or DNA, and others are of a wider historical perspective eg farming or military ancestors, designed to explain how our ancestors lived. What their lives may have been like. Normally there is a workshop every season where folk can ask local experts about how to knock down brick walls and develop their research. Most evenings a speaker will give a talk for around 45 minutes and then take questions. Refreshments are provided afterwards. Membership is £25 a year or non members can pay for individual talks on the night at a cost of £3. Members unable to attend the talk in person can attend by Zoom plus most talks are recorded and available to view later for 2 weeks. January 26's talk is by Jim Goodman and is entitled: "Foyle College Archives." Jim retired from teaching in Foyle College in 2011 after 34 years teaching Biology and Music. He has had a life- long interest in music, choirs, orchestras & bands (Britannia Concert Band). He is a former MD of Londonderry Musical Society and Altnagelvin Hospital Choir. He is currently with Foyle University of the 3rd Age Choir. He became involved with Foyle College Archive when he was asked to write the music and drama section of their history book (A view the Foyle Commanding) to celebrate their 400 year anniversary. Members admitted free. £3 admission fee for non-members
