About

About Waterfoot Beach

Set at the foot of Glenariff — known as the Queen of the Glens — Waterfoot Beach is a wide, golden stretch of sand that offers a peaceful retreat along the Antrim coast. Framed by rugged cliffs, open sea views, and the charming seaside village of Waterfoot, this lesser-known gem is perfect for those seeking a quieter alternative to some of the region’s busier beaches.

With the Glenariff River flowing into the sea nearby, Waterfoot Beach offers an idyllic setting where mountain and ocean meet. The beach is popular with walkers, paddlers, and families, with plenty of open space to explore or simply relax and take in the fresh coastal air. Its gently sloping sands and calm tides make it suitable for children, and it's a favourite with locals for evening walks and summer picnics.

The beach is backed by grassy dunes with views across Red Bay and out toward the Mull of Kintyre on clear days. It's also just a short drive from Glenariff Forest Park, making it a perfect spot to combine a woodland hike with a seaside stroll.

Waterfoot Beach is dog-friendly and offers free parking close to the shore. The village of Waterfoot has a shop, pubs, and local takeaways, and the beach remains a quiet and uncrowded option for visitors travelling the Causeway Coastal Route.

Whether you're stopping en route to explore the Glens of Antrim or looking for a serene shoreline to unwind, Waterfoot Beach is a beautiful and underrated highlight along the Northern Ireland coast.
