About
Join the Roe Valley Arts & Cultural Centre to celebrate the oncoming spring and the return of the light, as they explore how cultures around the world mark the awakening from winter into springtime. Inspired by the Celtic festival of Imbolc & Chinese New Year, the centre and surrounding area will be filled with creativity, music and storytelling – all FREE and open to families.
From 3–5pm, children are invited to join a range of drop-in creative workshops running throughout the afternoon. They can pick and choose what to try and move between activities as they wish. Some of the things on offer include:
Wishing Tickets – write a wish for 2026 (for yourself, your family or the wider world) and add it to the communal Wishing Tree.
Imbolc-inspired clay hanging decorations to make and take home.
Create your own St Brigid’s Cross, celebrating renewal, protection and new beginnings.
Dragon puppet-making to mark Chinese New Year.
Chinese New Year–inspired lanterns, celebrating light, hope and fresh starts.
Throughout the afternoon, enjoy walkabout music and storytelling from the Causeway Mummers, who will bring traditional tales, lively characters and music to life as they move through the event. The RVACC will also welcome St Brigid, who will meet and greet visitors, share her story, and introduce some of the traditions and symbolism surrounding Imbolc, the festival of new light, freshness and hope.
The celebration will conclude outdoors in Drumceatt Square with a striking performance by the brilliant Firepoise, bringing warmth, energy and spectacle as all welcome the brighter days ahead.
