As part of Culture Month, the Old Church Centre are welcoming human rights lawyer Phil Scraton to interview Martin Doyle, Books Editor of the Irish Times.
Doyle's highly-acclaimed Dirty Linen: Troubles in My Home Place, published in 2023, is an original and searing exploration of the impact of the northern conflict on his native parish of Tullylish in County Down. In thus giving the generic phenomenon of the Troubles "a local habitation and a name", he presents not only a work of historical documentation but a painfully sensitive study of extreme grief and loss, and the difficult courage those human realities can (sometimes) engender.
